Welcome to the how to get rid of rodents web site. we would appreciate if you would leave a comment of what you think or how you like the site.

How to get rid of rodents? This is a question that is asked almost daily. Whether it is rats, mice, gophers and moles, the list goes on and on. I will use rats and mice as an example Rats are creatures of habit, so when they come in contact with a new object, they have a fear that is called Neophobia, it is a fear of a new object.

There are some things you need to know when you are trying to figure out how to get rid of rodents. Below is a few of those things.

Rats explore their territory of 100 to 300 feet daily. Rats are extremely cautious about changes in their territory. Rats and mice have been implicated in outbreaks of much different disease.

Rats and mice are known carriers of several microorganisms that can cause disease in cattle. Particularly dangerous for livestock is the transmission risk of bacteria of the genuses Salmonella, Yersinia, Ricketsiae, Leptospira, as well as some viruses. Rats establish pathways along fence line tops and next to walls, rafters. Look for the presence of rat droppings when placing traps.Rats or mice will take some patience when getting rid of them.

Rats and house mice have become too accustomed to domestic life, so they will find their way back into your home. Not only that, but rats and house mice are often of such large populations that the re usability of lethal mouse traps and rat traps becomes more economical and far more efficient.

Mice can damage rock-hard buildings by gnawing through walls, pipes, ducts, and electrical wires as well. They carry dangerous pathogens and parasites with them, and can spread ghastly infections. Mice are living beings. Nope, I don’t want them living in my house.

How to get rid of rodents that is a big question

Traps tend to be less dangerous than poisons, using traps is the safest way to go. No matter which way you choose they still must be placed away from children and pets. By their nature, traps typically prevent rodents from leaving the trap site and users must dispose of the trapped rodents. Traps are probably the best choice. Some pest control products contain chemicals that can be dangerous to you and your fetus. Traps are available at hardware stores and catalog retailers. Glue traps are good to use if the rodent is not to large

Knowing how to get rid of rodents is like every other pest problem, it takes being consistent. Follow up is the key

Everyone needs to know how rat poisons works and every one should also know the poison control center emergency number. The Poison control number in the united states is 1-800-222-1222
If you do have or need to know how to use rat poisons then you also need to know firstaid.

Typical active ingredients for rat poisons are are: brodificoum, diphacinone, warfarin, bromadiolone, and others. Most of these products include green dyes for a characteristic appearance; however, dogs and cats have poor color vision and to them these pellets may look like kibbled pet food.

Anticoagulant rodenticides do not produce signs of poisoning for several days after the toxic dose has been consumed. Anticoagulant rodenticides cause internal bleeding. A poisoning victim will show weakness and pallor but bleeding will likely not be obvious externally.

To understand what these poisons do, it is necessary to have some understanding of how blood clots. A blood vessel is sort of like a pipe carrying rapidly flowing blood along its path. The pipe is lined by smooth flat cells called endothelial cells which facilitate the smooth flow of the blood. If the pipe breaks, the structure of the pipe below the lining is exposed to the flowing blood inside. From there the sequence of events is as follows:

The blood vessel automatically constricts and spasms. This restricts the blood flowing to the damaged area and helps minimize blood loss.

The exposed pipe attracts circulating platelets, cloud-like cells that circulate ready to assist in clotting should the need arise. Platelets clump together over the tear in the blood vessel forming a plug within the first 5 minutes of the injury. This is all a good thing but the platelets will stay in place unless a substance called fibrin can be made to bind them.

Platelets have on their surface binding sites for coagulation proteins, which also circulate normally in inactive forms. These coagulation proteins must be activated in order to produce fibrin. There are two ways to do this: a so-called intrinsic pathway and a so-called extrinsic pathway. There are twelve clotting factors involved between these two pathways and we will not confuse you by reviewing these steps but suffice it to say that calcium is one of the factors as are 4 enzymes called serine proteases. It is the serine proteases which are relevant to rat poisoning. The end product of these pathways is protein fiber called fibrin which binds the platelets and serves as a scaffolding for the permanent healing of the vessel tear.

Anticoagulant (containing a chemical called warfarin) impairs the creation of one of the significant blood clotting factors, prothrombin. Vitamin K is an important factor in the synthesis of prothrombin clotting factors in the blood. Because of this, Vitamin K is considered an antidote for warfarin overdose. If a child or pet inadvertently consumes a warfarin-based rodenticide, the usual treatment is injections of Vitamin K. This is simplified greatly because the actual effects of the warfarin can be measured fairly accurately by measuring the blood clotting rate. This prothrombin clotting time or protime measurement is necessary for anyone on warfarin prophylaxis therapy. Tests may be done as frequently as daily to as infrequently as monthly.

Safety for knowing how to get rid of rodents.

There are many factors to take into consideration in knowing when knowing how rat poisons works so be careful.

What Do You Care about When Looking For A Pest Exterminator?

What’s a pest? To you it might be the mice living in your metal shed or the birds eating your sunflowers. It could mean those raccoons that eat your dog’s food at night or the cock roaches scurrying around at night. Whatever you’re meaning of pests is you’ll need the right pest exterminator to get rid of that problem. Not all pest exterminator’s are made equal.

An exterminator can get rid of any problem you have but you need the right exterminator for the right pest. Some pests can cause a lot of problems and should be exterminatedbefore they cause too much harm, other pest problems are just that, pest problems. Choosing the right pest exterminator is easy if you know what to look for in a professional pest exterminator.

Whether it’s roaches, or other outside invaders, a pest exterminator can eliminate the problem. The most important thing an exterminator will do is examine the pest problem and decide what the pest is and the best way to get rid of it. If they just come out and start spraying or try to wrap you around a yearly contract they probable don’t know what they are doing. Always be sure to research or get a friend to recommend a pest exterminator.

Most companies will take care of insects, bugs, mice, fleas and many more but if they don’t normally exterminate, say scorpions, then you want to research until you find a company that specializes in them before hiring them for your pest problem. Choose the right pest company for the right pest.

Make sure they do a through inspection of your home and tell you (in writing) what the problem is and how they will fix it. Also what chemical or treatment they’ll use and how often it’s needed to control your pest problem. Since most pest problems can take anywhere from one month to a year to take care of, be wary of promises that your problem can be fixed with one treatment. They may not know what they’re doing and you should continue to look for a good pest serviceIf you choose a yearly service make sure the treatment takes care of interior and exterior. Pests come from outside to the inside of your house looking for food, water or shelter. Their service should include treatment of soil, turf, or mulch areas outside the house. They should also include door thresholds, windows casing and under eaves as well as any entry points.

Pest exterminators should offer treatments around crack and crevices in the kitchen, bathrooms, and utility rooms. They should include treatment around appliances as well. Your garage and carport should be included in the service. Don’t forget the attic, crawl spaces and drains where pests can easily get in.

Using the right pest control company for the right pest will effectively rid you of your pest troubles.

Using the right pest exterminator for the right pest will effectively rid you of your pest problems. Remember no pest exterminator can or will promise you will never have another infestation, but they an certainly help keep the problems out.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FL — In the St. Augustine Shores neighborhood in St. Johns County, neighbors say one house stands out from the others.

“The whole place is just a total wreck,” says neighbor Mike Kennedy.

Kennedy says he has watched the huge collection of junk in his neighbor’s yard steadily growing larger. It has reached the point where code enforcement visited last week.

“All it’s doing is devaluing the property all around and it’s becoming a real health hazard,” says Kennedy.

And now neighbors say it’s more than the mess. Rats are living in the junk in the yard and spreading out across the neighborhood.

“The rats have just started coming into my yard,” says one neighbor.

“We think the junk inside and outside is what has drawn the rats and is what is making them accumulate there,” says another neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified.

Neighbors are also worried about the woman who lives in the house and uses a wheelchair. They say they have offered to help her but were turned down.

First Coast News went to talk to the homeowner, and off camera she said she has hired someone to move the junk to comply with code enforcement.

But this time she did agree to accept help from her neighbors.

“If it needs to be cleaned up inside, maybe we could help do that. If it had to be repainted, maybe we could get a bunch of volunteers from the neighborhood together and go over and help her,” says Kennedy.
©2009 First Coast News. All rights reserved.
I set mouse traps and the Beagles tend to nab one every now and then. I don’t know what Eradibait is. I also use d-con and put it in a safe place next to the mouse trap with peanut butter on it. I do that inside and out. It helps a lot. I have to set traps in the driveway to keep the mice out of the cars. People think I’m nuts, but I’d rather be nuts than rewiring my car because a mouse chewed it up, that’s for sure. The Beagles don’t bother the traps and it works out perfect. For a while I was catching about 6 a day. Finally we hit a drop in population!

I saw a few mice or rats in my backyard. I’m not an expert, so I don’t know exactly what it was, but it looked about 7-8 inches long. I want to get rid of them, and I don’t care if my ways are humane or not. I’m disgusted by them however, so a trap would be least preferable option since it will require handling of the rodents. Is there something I could use, either something smelly or a high-pitched sound generator of some sort that would drive them away? I don’t have any other pets, so interference of the signal with pets is irrelevant.
Cat is also not an option because my wife is allergic to them

1. you could bait them…but you must use a lockable trap to avoid children ,pets or non target animal getting to them
2 you should be able to buy cage type traps which use no poisons and do not hurt the animal….the advantage of this is if what you think is a rat may be a native animal and you can release it in a suitable location…
if they are rats you can kill or release them

you can make a trap your self for outside…..buy some PVC pipe ….cut into a lenght that young kids can’t reach the middle
drill a hole both side of the pipe at centre of length
then wire in wax block rodent baits

Every night I go to sleep they come out. It has gotten so bad that I awoke the other night to mouse on my pillow. I tried to kill the damn thing but it got away. They leave there droppings on my kitchen counter and my stove every night. Please help me get rid of this huge problem. I have kids and I do not want my kids around these rodents.
I can not get a cat because I have asthma and the hair would trigger an attack.
Also my daughter is terrified of cats

Try to find out where they first got into your house, and block the entrance. Block as many holes inside and out as you can find. Especially look around all the electrical outlets. Move furniture, look behind appliances, etc. The expanding insulator foam in a can works pretty well to block the holes.

Then remove all food sources. Wash your dishes every night, clean up crumbs the kids leave under the table, take out the kitchen trash daily, keep bread and crackers and cereal in the fridge or plastic containers, clean the crumbs out of the bottom of the toaster, everything.

Then you can get rid of the mice left in the house. If your kids are small, you can use old-fashioned traps in places they can’t reach. Bait them with peanut butter and set them each night. Check them every morning, before the kids start running around. If your kids are older, like 6yrs and up, you can use mouse poison. Show the kids what it looks like and tell them that it will make them sick. If using traps or poison won’t work for you, then you will need to call an exterminator.

I have 5 dogs and a hugh back yard. I believe rats have tunneled under my wood shed and are living there. My dogs are always chasing them at night. I’m afraid to go into my own back yard. If I use rat poison, the rats will die, and the dogs will eat the rats and die.

You could use something called a live trap, it’ll catch the rats alive. You can release them away from your home and it won’t harm your dogs at all. If you’re too scared of the rats to do this then ask someone else to do it for you.
